Start with a conversation. Earn the next step.

I’m Sam. I’m pursuing remote BDR/SDR opportunities in B2B tech, bringing direct insurance sales experience, over nine years in hospitality, and a background in software development.

I believe a good first conversation starts with understanding who you’re reaching out to and why they might be interested. That’s the approach I’d bring to prospect research, personalized outreach, qualification, and follow-up.

Sales experience at a glance

I've had the conversations. I've made the sales.

Before pursuing BDR/SDR opportunities, I spent six months in direct life insurance sales. I worked with provided leads through a multi-line dialing system, discussing coverage needs, explaining policy options, and helping prospective clients choose suitable protection.

What the numbers don’t show

That experience taught me how much the quality of a conversation matters. Understanding someone’s actual needs, asking the right questions, and recognizing when there’s a reason to move forward made a difference in how I approached sales.

The ~6% figure is the approximate lead-to-policy conversion rate, not a B2B meeting-booking or SaaS conversion rate. Coverage written refers to total policy face value, not revenue.

How I can contribute

Where I fit into your pipeline.

I’m interested in the work that goes into building a healthy sales pipeline: finding relevant prospects, starting conversations, qualifying interest, and helping the right opportunities reach the next stage. I’ve worked in phone sales, used prospecting and outreach tools, and collaborated with technical teams. Here’s how I’d apply that experience in a BDR/SDR role.

Prospect research & outreach

Make the first conversation worth having.

I’d start by understanding the account, what the company does, who might be responsible for the problem, and whether there’s a relevant reason to reach out.

I’ve worked with Apollo and Smartlead, and I’m comfortable with phone-based sales. I’d use that experience to write more relevant messages, make the calls, and follow up with purpose rather than relying on a generic pitch.

  • Account and contact research
  • Personalized email and phone outreach
  • Organized, consistent follow-up
Qualification & meeting setting

Turn interest into a useful next step.

Getting a response is one part of the job. What happens afterward matters just as much. I’d focus on understanding why someone is interested, whether the product addresses a problem worth discussing, and what they need from the next conversation.

When there’s a fit, I’d make the next step clear and give the Account Executive enough context to pick up the conversation without starting from scratch.

  • Initial discovery and lead qualification
  • Meeting coordination and clear next steps
  • Relevant context for sales handoffs

Experience beyond direct sales

The experience behind how I work.

I’ve spent years working directly with customers, supporting teams through busy service environments, and building software for clients. Each experience shaped how I communicate, solve problems, and work with people.

Relationships that last.

Premium hospitality · XOXO Sushi Bar

At XOXO, I built a regular clientele, including guests who specifically requested bar seating. Remembering preferences and making thoughtful recommendations helped create the kind of experience people wanted to return for.

Leadership under pressure.

STK Steakhouse & XOXO Sushi Bar

I was promoted to Bar Lead at STK Boston, helping coordinate six bartenders and four barbacks. At XOXO, I supported staff training, service coordination, and guest recovery during busy services of roughly 70–120 restaurant covers.

Understanding the technology.

Full-stack development · Mind+Matter & Upwork

I have over 2.5 years of software development experience, working with technical and nontechnical teams to turn business requirements into working software. That background gives me a foundation for understanding technical products, asking questions about how they work, and communicating their value to people who may not have a technical background.

My sales philosophy

An honest conversation beats a forced yes.

I’ve spent enough time in sales to know that pushing a conversation forward doesn’t necessarily mean the person is interested.

I’d rather start by understanding someone’s situation, asking questions that actually matter, and figuring out whether there’s a genuine reason to keep talking.

That matters in outbound sales, where people aren’t necessarily expecting to hear from you. A relevant message and a respectful approach can make the conversation easier to start.

And when there is a fit, I’m comfortable being direct about the next step. The point is to move the right conversations forward and respect the people on the other end.

Direct when it matters. Thoughtful from the start.

A little about me

Different experiences. One common thread.

I’ve worked in a few different worlds: hospitality, insurance sales, and software development. They might look unrelated on paper, but each one taught me something about working with people and solving problems.

Hospitality taught me to read the room, build relationships, and stay composed under pressure. Insurance gave me experience speaking directly with prospects, understanding coverage needs, and helping people make important purchasing decisions.

Software development added another perspective. I’ve worked with clients and teams who approach problems differently, and I’ve learned how important it is to understand both the business need and the technology behind a solution.

I’m now looking to bring that experience into B2B tech sales. I enjoy the conversations, I’m comfortable learning technical products, and I want to keep developing my skills in prospecting and business development.
